January Elerts
-
Illinois -
Higher January prices are now in effect, with ComEd's annual fixed supply rates rising more than 50% compared to last year. Ameren's rate increases were even higher for some commercial accounts. The Illinois legislature ended their session without acting on a three-year extension of the rate freeze that has kept electric prices at 1997 levels, but stay tuned for more dialogue.
-
Pennsylvania -
Penn Power's transition period is now over. Prices for supply now range in the $85-95 range for medium and large commercial customers (up from $45-55). There is limited participation by suppliers so far, but more are expected to join the fray in March.
-
Connecticut -
New rates represent significant increases for supply in both United Illuminating (60-100% or more) and Connecticut Light & Power (20-30%). New congestion and capacity issues in the region dictate that end-users understand if those elements (congestion, forward capacity and forward Locational reserves) are included in their prices or will be passed through. Savings of $10-12/MWh are being realized by buyers that shop.
-
RPM in PJM -
PJM's proposed Reliability Pricing Model (RPM) has been conditionally approved by FERC and is expected to drive capacity prices from $5-15/MW-day to $100-130/MW-day or more in the PJM footprint.
